In Xiamen University, staff from OEC’s Office of Overseas Students can book the room for you upon your request. When you are here, staff from OEC’s Service Center can help you choose the room you think best suits you.
In Xiamen University, you have three choices in regard of accommodations:
1.Cai Qingjie Building with hotel-standard services;
2.Naguang 5 Dormitory specially for overseas students at cheaper rates; and
3.Off-campus accommodations.
On-campus accommodations
Most overseas students would choose on-campus accommodation for at least the first semester of their studies, where they can make the most of what is available on campus. For example, it takes only about 3 minutes’ walk from the dorm to the lecture building; living together with other overseas students makes it possible to communicate with each other during spare time. Facing the sea, the two dorm buildings command a nice view with fresh air and are free from hustle and bustle of the campus.
Clean and tidy, the dorm buildings are well-appointed with each room equipped with modern facilities such as telephone, air-conditioner and cable TV. In your room, you may log on to the university LAN, surf the net, or take a shower. You can go swimming in the sea, which is only about a hundred meters away. The services provided by the OEC’s Service Center include: meals, coffee, entertainment, and store for daily necessities.

Points for attention
1.You may book your accommodation on-line through our website, we will help you do it upon your application;
2.The electricity bill is paid by yourself;
3.You have to go through the formalities at the Network Operation Center of the university (0086-592-2183509) if you want to open or close your account for the university LAN;
4.The telephone inside the room is a public telephone, and you may use the phone card when calling.
Off-campus accommodation
More often than not, overseas students would start considering living off-campus after they have stayed in the city for a period of time and become familiar with the city life. If you decide to do that, we need a letter of consent from your parents, to make sure that you maintain reachable contact with your family as well as with the managing staff of the college.
Living off-campus facilitates your exchange and communication with local residents, your understanding of Chinese culture and customs and contributes to your learning of Chinese.
Living off-campus in Xiamen is really cheap. The monthly rent for a spacious and comfortable room is about RMB 1,200 yuan (USD 145). Of course you may consider living off-campus together with your classmates, which is safer and conducive to overcoming your loneliness.
The OEC staff will help you go through the necessary formalities for living off-campus. At the same time, you should provide some relevant documents including a letter of consent from your parents.
