Located on China’s southeast coast, Xiamen has been a hub for cultural exchanges between China and other countries in modern times. Xiamen, which is better known as Amoy in western literature, used to be a meeting place with a good natural harbor and developed into a city at the turn of the 20th century. In recent years, it has won lots of titles in praise of its work such as “The Most Congenial City In China”, “International Garden City”, and “The Best Tourist City”. In 2004, it won “UNCHS Human Settlement Award”. Medium-sized as it is, the city is economically dynamic, and the residents are hospitable and it sees frequent in-flow and out-flow of people. As such, the city is able to offer safety, and efficient services to people who come to reside, do shopping, for transit or sightseeing purposes.
In Xiamen people can enjoy all the famous Chinese cuisines. If you like, you can go to café or pub to have a drink, or you may choose some fancy hotels or restaurants to enjoy sumptuous feasts or local snacks, to have a taste of Chinese culinary culture. |
