While Xiamen is the most booming and busiest city in southeast Fujian province, Quanzhou city, a close neighbor of Xiamen, used to be the starting port the famous “Silk Road on the Sea”. It offers lots of historic relics and cultural heritages and its centuries-old string puppet show is famous worldwide. Zhangzhou, another close neighbor of Xiamen, is highly developed agriculturally and known as the “rice bowl” of the province. Meanwhile, one of the three campuses of Xiamen University is located there. If you are interested in architecture, you should go and see well-known donut-shaped residential complex in west Fujian and it takes only about 3 hours’ drive to get there. Wuyi Mountains, a famous resort and tourist destination in north Fujian, which has been listed by the United Nations as a world natural heritage and culture heritage reservation, is not far from Xiamen either. Each year, it attracts large number of tourists. |
