OEC's regular Chinese language specialty includes 2 areas of study ,namely,Business Chinese and Chinese Culture. You may choose either of the two according to your own interest or needs.
1.Objective:
Business Chinese: It aims at bringing up business and trade personnel who are fairly good at communication in Chinese, have a command of business and trade expertise, and are able to do business with people speaking Chinese.
Chinese culture: It is designed to turn students into talents who have laid a solid foundation on the knowledge of Chinese language, a good mastery of Chinese language and familiar with the actual situation in China and Chinese society and culture.
2.Prerequisites:
Any foreign national who is a graduate of senior high school or student at university, and in good health may apply.
3.Prerequisites for joining the class in the middle of the program
Any holder of HSK Certificate Level 3 (Elementary Level C) is eligible to apply and, with the approval from OEC, join the second-year study of the program. Any holder of HSK Certificate Level 6 (Intermediate Level C) is eligible to apply, and, with the approval from OEC, join the third-year study of the study, which means all you need is another two years of study to obtain the 4-year university diploma and BA degree.
4.Academic qualifications for graduation
To graduate and obtain the degree, you have to have passed the exams for all courses, earned enough credits (150 credits), obtained the HSK Certificate Level 8 (Intermediate Level A), completed your graduation thesis and succeeded in the oral defense for your thesis.
5.Major courses:
a)Chinese culture: We offer 58 courses with altogether 150 credits for students majoring in this area of study. The major courses include: Selected Reading of Contemporary Chinese Literature, Brief History of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Brief History of Ancient Chinese Literature, Selection Reading of Ancient Chinese Literature, Brief History of Ancient Chinese History, History of Modern and Contemporary China, Introduction to Chinese Culture, Comparative Study of Chinese and Foreign Cultures, Chinese, Chinese Ethnic Groups and Folk Customs, Translation, Lectures on Cultural Topics, etc.
b)We offer 58 courses with altogether 150 credits for students majoring in this area of study. The major courses include: Basic Principles of Economics, Practices of International Trade, Survey of China’s Economy, International Trade, International Finance, Currency and Banking, Marketing, Management, China’s Foreign Economic Laws, International Economic Laws, Translation, etc.
6.Conferment of degree and diploma
Degree: BA Degree (in Chinese Culture or Business Chinese)
Diploma: Undergraduate Diploma for Chinese Language Specialty (Chinese Culture or Business Chinese), Xiamen University. |
