How to come to the University :
The College may meet the students at the airport if the students would fax the exact time, date and flight number to us. The service fee for this is RMB60 yuan. Taxi from the airport to the University is about RMB60 yuan. Take a No. 27 or No. 37 bus from the airport to the Railway Station and change to No. 1, No. 21 or No. 17 bus to Xiamen University.
Spring Semester : begins on Feb. 20,2006 and ends at the end of Jul, 2006, during which from May 1 to 7 is the International Labol Day.
About Grading : Grade the students into about 20 classes of different levels by grading examination ( speaking and writing ) at the beginning of the Semester. Usually, there are 18 first grade classes, 6 second grade classes, and 2 third grade classes.
Schedule of the Classes :Classes will be from Monday to Friday. 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. : Chinese
Schedule of the Classes :Classes will be from Monday to Friday. 13:30 p.m. to 17:30 p.m. : Chinese
Optional Courses :Such as shadowboxing, Minnan ( South Fujian ) dialect, spoken Chinese for international trade, Chinese culture and so on. (All the optional Course is Free for Overseas Students)
Tuition Fee : For non-degree Chinese courses, USD2000 per year ( can pay by terms with USD1000 each term, by RMB or by USD).
Housing Charges :
RMB28-40 yuan per day per person for an air-conditioned double room which is equipped with shower, toilet, telephone, TV set, 24-hour hot water. There are public kitchen and refrigerator in the dormitory building.
Teaching Facilities : The teaching building is just next to the dormitory building. Classrooms are air-conditioned and with multi-media equipment. There are multi-media classrooms in the teaching building where students may go to the internet with paying RMB2 yuan per hour.
Library and Playing Fields : The Foreign Students Dormitory Building is situated at the center of the campus, is about 5 to 10 minutes walk from the library and the playing fields, which are open to the students free of charge.
About Insurance : The University will contact the insurance company for the students. Students will decide whether to insure or not.
Application Procedures :
Step one: Ask for Application Form For Foreigners Wishing To Study at Xiamen university from Foreign Student Office of OEC or Download this form, Download.
Step two: Fill in the form and then send the form to International Student Office of OEC or go to http://oec.xmu.edu.cn to fill in an application form before the start of the new semester.
Step three: Admission Notice and Visa Clearance Form (JW202) will be sent to students who have been admitted before registration.
Step four: Admitted students should take Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW202) to the Chinese Embassy to apply for X Visa or six months F visa.
Step Five: Admitted students should take Admission Notice and Visa Applicaton Form (JW202) to register at OEC within the registration period mentioned on the Admission Notice. Otherwise, one will be deprived of the student status. Exception can be made to students who have informed the school of their special reasons and whose delay has been permitted.
