the Philippines Chinese as a foreign language teacher training class of China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOCFL), arrived in Xiamen and began a 10-day training course. It is the first time for Xiamen University to launch a training course for the teachers from the higher education institutes of the Philippines, which has helped to extend the OEC’s influence of Chinese teaching in the mainstream society.
On the afternoon of Dec. 12, the closing ceremony was held in the meeting room on the fifth floor of the office building of the OEC. The dean of the OEC, Zhan Xinli, and the vice-dean of the OEC, Chen Ronglan, some teachers and all the training students attended the ceremony, which was hosted by the vice-dean.
In her warm-hearted speech, the dean said that the OEC has maintained a good cooperative relationship with the Chinese language field in the Philippines. The visits and communications between the institutes of the higher education of the Philippines and China have begun very early. In July 2000, the leaders of Xiamen University and the OEC of Xiamen University visited some famous universities in the Philippines. In October of the same year, an inspection group consisting of the presidents of seven universities of the Philippines paid a visit to our university and signed a framework agreement, in which the two parties expressed the wish to push forward a new round of further academic cooperation in the scientific research and exchange of personnel, etc. This training class is the first successful implementation of the agreement since the signing. The fact proves that this method of cooperation is effective, and has exerted a far-reaching influence abroad. In the end, Miss Zhan congratulated the training students on the successful completion of the study.
Dr. Li Xiulian, Chinese teacher in the Philippines and the leader of the training class, gave a speech on behalf of all the students. He expressed the gratitude of the students to the Higher Education Committee of the Philippines, the overseas Chineses in the Philippines, the NOCFL and Xiamen University for providing such a golden opportunity. During the process of the training, the experts of the department of Chinese language of the OEC were patient and careful in their teaching and demonstration, which was of great help to the students and promoted the friendship among the students. Dr. Li expressed the wish to continue the Chinese languge teaching after returning to the Philipines and teach their students what they have learnt from this training.
The two parties held a disscussion about the Chinese languge learning, the Chinese languge teaching by corresponce and the Chinese long-distance teaching. After the ceremony, Miss Zhan awaded the whole students Certificate of Attendance issued by NOCFL and OEC, and presented the teaching material complied by OEC and related souvenirs to the students. The students organized and produced a lot of carefully-arranged performances and presented the souvenirs in return to all the teachers and leaders of the college to convey their thanks to the warm-hearted help given by OEC. |
