On the evening of April 2, 2004, a delegation of eleven people from the Philippines Chang Kai Shek College (CKSC) paid a visit to our university. The vice-secretary of the Party Committee of Xiamen University--Chen Liwen, the dean of the OEC--Zhan Xinli, and the vice-director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Lin Rirong, attended the welcome banquet. As the only Chinese language school including kindergartens to research institutes in the Philippines, CKSC has maintained a close and long-term relationship with Xiamen University. Both the former chairmen of the board, Mr. Cai Qingjie, and the former president, Mr. Shao Jianyin, are the alumni of Xiamen University, who donated the constructions of the Cai qingjie Building and Yi Lan Building respectively. This visit led by Mr. Shao Jianyin, Ms Sy Joanna, the present president of CKSC, and Mr. Chen Zhuyuan, the present chairman of the board aimed at promoting the cooperation with Xiamen University in various fields like jointly cultivating students and facilitating the Chinese language education.
The next day, Dean of the OEC Zhan Xinli, Vice-Dean of the Humanities College, Huang Mingfen, and Vice-Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, Lin Rirong, had a warm talk with the visitors, introducing the experience and achivements of the Overseas Education College and the Department of Chinese language in Chinese language education in detail. As one of ten unversities in China supporing the Chinese language education in the rim countries selected by China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOCFL), Xiamen University put its emphasis on Indonesia, Malysia, and the Philippines, devoted to the development of multi-media long-distance education in recent years, and made great progress in teacher training and degree awarding, etc. In 1999, OEC founded Chinese Learning Cyberspace, where students can self-test their level of Chinese profeciency on line, and conducted long-distance corresponce education with the combination of classroom teaching. The students can obtain the Bachelor’s Degree. OEC is now applying for the special project fund to China Education Department so as to establish an online Chinese as a foreign language teacher training center. Chang Kai Shek College expressed its longing to cooperate with Xiamen University in the fieds of Chinese as a foreign language teacher training and students exchange etc., and hope to learn the experience of network teaching from Xiamen University so as to reform the teaching methods and attract more students to learn Chinese.
After the meeting, the visitors had a tour of the College of Arts Education, the multi-media teaching center of OEC, the micro-mechanic & electric center and Zhangzhou Campus, and were lavish in praising the beautiful campus and complete facilities. |
