On April 12, 2004, the overseas students from Thailand got together at the multi-functional hall of the OEC of XMU to celebrate the new year of Thailand, Songkran Festival. In the New Year evening party, the Thai students dressed in the national costumes celebrated the coming of the New Year with the annual Water Festival.
With the Thai New Year at hand, the Thai students committee played an active role in organizing the celebration activities. After near one-month careful preparations, the Lian Xin Building of OEC was imbued with the Thai culture. Through the publicity column of the college, the acitivites and ceremonies of various kinds were introduced to the students from other countries. On the morning of April 12, all the Thai students dressed in the national costumes cheerfully celebrated the New Year, with the multi-functional hall at Lian Xin Building full of the overseas students. The teachers of the department of Chinese Language of OEC were also invited to take part.
During the celebration, the Thai students showed the students from other countries at present the traditional Thai cultures, introducing the ways of celebration of the Thai by means of the collected material, and demonstrated their celebration activities through the multi-media projecting. After that, they expressed their respect for the elder generation. Mr. Chen Xin, the vice-dean of the department of Chinese Language of OEC expressed the congrations to the Thai students on behalf of the college. Later on, the students celebrated the New Year with the Water Festival, dousing each other with water. The Lian Xin Building is immersed in a happy ocean.
According to the statistics, We have 77 Thai students in OEC. In the recent years, with the publicity of OEC in Thailand extending, more and more Thai students came to China, most of whom are now learning Chinese in our college, and near 10 students are studying for Bacholer’s degree. |
